When you travel to Cartagena there are many great places to see.

Located on Isla Baru this spot is one of the most enjoyable things to do in Colombia’s Caribbean.

Playa Blanca, Colombia

A visit to Playa Blanca leaves you satisfied, especially after seeing the beaches close to old town Cartagena which are almost non-existent.

It is one of the many beaches near Cartagena, and best of all, fun places in Colombia that you should take the time to come and see.

One of my most popular choices is that of Playa Blanca, Colombia.

What, though, makes it such a special place?

Playa Blanca, Colombia is a hugely enjoyable location; the kind that makes it very easy for you to settle into a new kind of experience.

Playa Blanca: (Beach Near Cartagena)

The beautiful turquoise waters are postcard picturesque, and the idea of being here is to relax and get that dose of much-needed vitamin D.

Sip your Pina Colada as golden sand moves around your feet as you step across the most famous beach of all beaches close to Cartagena.

However, one thing about coming to Playa Blanca is that it can be quite hard to know what you are doing – or where you are going.

If you worry that you might find it hard to have the most wonderful time here, fear not. Believe me, that is harder than it might sound.

Thankfully, this simple guide below should help you to find answers!

Shuttle rides

There are many ways to get around the Playa Blanca, but I found that the awesome little shuttles are the best way to travel around.

This allows you to get around the beach easily and helps you to avoid the large crowds that can sometimes feel a touch too over the top.

Shuttle rides help you to get around the beach ahead of the crowds.

Try the local cuisine

Whether at the beach club or on a boat, lunch here is very cheap, and there are many locations that you try out the local food.

Fried fish and plantains are commonplace, and you will also find a lot of nice little additions to try out as sides and extras.

A common drink to enjoy here is a drink of lemonade with some cane sugar included; it’s not great for the teeth (I suggest you carry your best travel toothbrush with you), but you’ll love the richness of the taste.

Check out Street Stalls

The beach is loaded with various vendors selling all kinds of stuff.

While some of it is just garbage, and some of it a total rip-off, always remember, these are just locals looking to make a living.

If you can look beyond their rather aggressive sales strategy, you can find the odd bargain stored away amongst it all.

Go snorkeling

A fun way to spend your time when you come to Playa Blanca, Colombia is to take on snorkeling trips.

The Rosario Islands offer ample choice for you to do just that, and this will make it easy for you to try out the fun seaside activities here.

Snorkeling on the islands brings you a mix of snorkeling experiences, taking you up-close and personal with beautiful coral reefs.

A tour of the Rosarios

Of course, you could also take a classic tour of the Rosario Islands. This should make it nice and easy for you to explore, relax, and have fun.

It’s a good place to come to when you want something nice and simple and will get you away from the tourist-heavy beaches of Playa Blanca.

Visit the Avario Nacional de Colombia

A fine place to visit is the Avario Nacional de Colombia.

This is a fun place to be, it’s a small attraction but one that has some amazing avian creatures waiting for you to come and see. A decent shirt to keep you cool is a good idea whilst out taking photos all day.

From flamingo birds to condors and macaws, you will find just about every kind of bird that you can imagine here.
